Family of Jan Brueghel the Elder by Rubens |
Jan Brueghel the Elder (1568-1625) was born in Brussels and he was a draughtsman and a Flemish painter. His father was a well known Flemish Renaissance painter Pieter Bruegel the Elder. His mother was the daughter of well known Flemish Renaissance artists – Mayken Verhulst and Pieter Coecke van Aelst. Jan Brueghel was a very good friend of Peter Paul Rubens who was a leading Flemish painter of the 17th century.
Jan Brueghel painter many different genre paintings such as flower still lives, history paintings, landscapes, hunting scenes, village scenes, mythological scenes, battle scenes etc.
