Juxtapoz Magazine – Jack & Venus: Susumu Kamijo @ Jack Hanley, NYC

Jack Hanley Gallery is happy to present Jack & Venus, an exhibition of new performs by New York-centered artist Susumu KamijoJack & Venus spans across two galleries and will open up concurrently at Venus In excess of Manhattan’s 55 Good Jones Avenue house. In this exhibition, Kamijo will display a new collection of his signature poodle paintings. These bold and dynamic figures have developed even more into abstraction which allows for the artist’s exploration of condition, color, and technique to stand out.

In this physique of function, Kamijo is concentrated on 3 primary areas: the poodle’s experience, the landscape, and the general composition of these elements. Although the poodle is the constant issue of the paintings, the artist has created it crystal clear that it is not the poodle alone that he is involved with but alternatively the surprising kinds that it can get on. These new functions are cropped into a form of portraiture- the viewer sees lips, enamel, and eyes gazing back at them serenely, joyfully, or fiercely. As the experience is emphasised, the viewer is ready to get in the designs, colors, and traces, all coming together to stand for the subject. Kamijo’s dynamic abstractions are even more complemented by the comfortable, rounded foliage of the landscapes they are settled in, as well as the smaller circles in the higher left or suitable corner, resembling the sunshine or the moon dependent on their shade.

The artist’s expressive technique is evident all through this series. Obvious brushstrokes and paint drips are balanced by daring strains and shapes. The repetition of imagery combined with the distinct evolution of style and strategy consequence in paintings that are at once familiar and entirely new.
