“Revenants” by Artists Kelly Richardson, Nicolas Sassoon & Rick Silva

A new exhibition featuring Canadian artist Kelly Richardson, Franco-Canadian artist Nicolas Sassoon and Brazilian-American artist Rick Silva. Curated by Brussels-centered artwork area Rectangle, “Revenants” plays with ideas of scale and time as it relates to human perception and our position on this planet. Sassoon’s ongoing sculpture sequence, “Prophets,” brings together volcanic rock with Liquid crystal display panels featuring pixelated animations reminiscent of flowing lava. Recalling traditional viewing stones, from which electronic hardware and screens emerge to form heads and figures, the sculptures recount a partial record of our marriage with make a difference and reminds us, not just of how the extremely ground beneath our toes was fashioned, but where by the exact minerals that allow our digital life originate. Sassoon and Silva’s collaborative challenge equally speaks to the connections between organic and natural and inorganic products as they share a frequent interest in depictions of wilderness and natural forms by computer imaging. “CORES” is created up of high-resolution 3D renderings of geological specimens altered by unnatural substances and enigmatic structures.

On the other conclude of the planetary spectrum, Richardson usually takes us into the asteroid belt of our solar process. Continuing concepts explored in “Pillars of Dawn” exactly where extinct species in a seemingly put up-human planet have taken the sort of crystals, “Origin Stories” reveals the majesty and infinite prosperity of our property inside the context of the universe. Nevertheless intensely inward (historical / geological) or outward (celestial / futuristic) these artists may perhaps be wanting, all the parts in “Revenants” look to arrive again to the similar matter — what purpose or accountability we still have however to play. As Alexandra Crouwers states in her essay on the display:

“When we return to the human electricity of a single, we’re still left with the realisation that even though our species’ conduct is dependable for the present-day world-wide extinction event, it is similarly able of manufacturing uniquely imaginative visions. Art by yourself can’t help save the planet but the development of artwork could extremely effectively be regarded as as the yin to our damaging yang.”
