Rivering

It’s been nearly ten decades due to the fact we initially interviewed Lisa Grossman for The Artist’s Street. See:  Voices of Experience – Lisa Grossman. Now, on the occasion of her 2023 exhibition, Rivering at Haw Modern day in Kansas Metropolis, we needed to update her interview with a several pictures from her new perform. The exhibition paintings replicate a love affair with the Kansas River, informed by science and historical past and particular explorations accomplished by kayak, airplane and path, resulting in an beautiful collection of oil and acrylic paintings. Also included in the display are painted, laser-reduce wood panels established from LiDAR map imagery elegantly revealing the river’s historic pathways.

The artist writes:  “This exhibition contains not only modern sights of the Kaw but also do the job that imagines the historic and evolving Kansas River Valley. These involve imagery of floodplain scrolls—scars still left at the rear of from aged river channels—the ancestral Kaw Lake, and the proof of ancient everyday living alongside the Kaw.”

“The oil paintings are primarily views of the river from above, making use of footage I’ve taken from a compact plane traveling at 500-1000 toes overhead or drone footage up to 400 feet in altitude. These paintings continue on my exploration of the ceaseless windings of sand and drinking water above time, the at any time-evolving channels unfurling across the riverbed. In them, I marvel at how the river offers up this kind of dynamic and in a natural way pleasing compositions.”
