Seeking Validation and Earning Credibility as an Artist
Or, alternatively, false validation from social media.
It’s real, and I despise stating this, that the extra followers you have, the a lot more possible I am to shell out notice to you and your art mainly because other individuals have provided you their thumbs up at some position.
And your social feed is far more probable to maintain my notice if it emphasizes art as the center of your life. Artwork, artwork, and much more art. That is what I want to see from an artist who seeks reflection and critical focus.
Having said that, we have to acknowledge that there is a phony feeling of validation from social media. I believe Sara Schroeder felt that when she talked about wanting to be “more than an Instagram artist.” She grew her Instagram subsequent immediately and had to acquire a step (or two) back to ponder what she truly desired from her art. Listen to my discussion with her in episode 119.
Whilst it feels very good to get those people followers, likes, feedback, and shares on social media, at some issue you have to question what they all signify.
Who is accomplishing the pursuing, liking, commenting, and sharing? How are all those interactions assisting you in the prolonged run? What transpires when you do not get sufficient likes or feedback?
This begs the issue: Who are you trying to find validation from?
