John is making ready for a major solo exhibition at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Artwork titled, “Transcendence: Fact in Character.” In the program of producing about the paintings for the exhibition catalog, he walks the reader through the four seasons and the inspiration and problems they provide to the landscape painter.
This week, we wished to share some of his feelings and paintings about Autumn with you.
“Fall and winter season are my favored periods of the 12 months for painting right here. The shades in the Midwest are very little like the stunning and fantastic orange, red and evergreen displays that I experienced been applied to portray in the hardwood and conifer forests of the Hudson Valley. Nor are there blue mountains increasing up to produce the excellent backdrop for any subject matter. It took me some time to adapt my eyesight to the subtleties of this midwestern landscape.”
“In my check out, Slide is also the best sunlight of the year in our latitude. The gentle is no more time overhead, but comes in at an angle, expanding the shadow effects. Early early morning and once more in late afternoon the golden mild outfits everything it touches with heat natural beauty. Rich shadows consider on a coolness not existing in the summer season, earning a amazing shade distinction with the sunlit environment. There are so numerous topics to paint each and every Fall that I get quite fired up by it and it is tricky often to just settle down and paint a little something. Mother nature puts all her exertion into converting the substantial energies gathered for the duration of the summer into this unbelievable transitional wonder. Every little thing changes and nondescript summer months vegetation quickly come to be star performers as they change colors or generate shiny berries, like buckbrush and winterberry do.”
